About the event
This is a multi-faceted event focused on the individual needs of the participant(s), while coordinating and participating in an interagency cooperative scenario. This is an opportunity to demonstrate Task Book skills, but the scenario is not designed to complete all of the required performance ares in the task book. There will be learning opportunities, but the assignments are real time, interactive, and not intended to be lessons. If the Cadre has to teach you how to do the skill assigned, they will not sign your task book for that skill. If someone else on your engine crew can lead you through the skill, and it is performed adequately, the Cadre can provide a signature (at their discretion). Scenario(s) may include live fire, or fire activity may be simulated, depending on weather conditions and overall participation.
Assignments are based on task book skills for the following positions:
- NWCG Firefighter 2 (S-130 field day)
- NWCG Firefighter 1
- NWCG Engine Boss
- NWCG Strike Team Leader - Engine
Potential assignments include:
- Structural Triage (using OSFM Survey123)
- Structure Preparation (including sprinkler systems)
- Structure Protection (tactical patrol, bump & run, prep & hold, etc.)
- Wildland Water Supply (port-a-tanks, portable pumps, drafting)
- Spotfire Attack
- Hoselays
- Handlines
- Firing Operations - Preparation
- Firing Operations - Firing
- Firing Operations - Holding
- Interagency Coordination & Cooperation
Participants will arrive and participate as either an engine crew, squad or overhead.
- Engine crews will provide an appropriate wildland engine, all tools and supplies to perform wildland tasks, a programmable radio (We will be cloning radios with incident freqs), PPE, qualified engine operator, and crew. All participants can be trainees, as long as the operator is qualified to drive the engine, and can perform the skills required of the engine operator (pumping, drafting, etc.).
- Squads can be extra personnel to support your engine crew, or can be utilized as a stand alone mini-handcrew. Squads will provide appropriate transportation (pick up or SUV?) to transport a crew of 1-5, all tools and supplies to perform related wildland tasks, a programmable radio (We will be cloning radios with incident freqs), PPE, and a qualified driver. All participants can be trainees, as long as the operator is qualified to drive the vehicle, Programmable radio not required if the squad is used as extra manpower for an engine from the same department.
- Overhead will arrive in an agency vehicle appropriate for wildland overhead use, and will provide all PPE and equipment related to overhead duties.
All participants desiring Task Book sign offs must arrive with a Task Book initiated by your respective agency. The Cadre will sign and complete ONLY the areas of the Task Book in which they can specifically observe performance. The Cadre cannot "sign off" a Task Book for completion. Completion and final certification of any Task Book is the responsibility of the trainee's home agency.
This is a group effort and all attendees will be assigned to a Strike Team/Task Force, and are expected to participate for the entire day and complete all assignments as directed, for the benefit of other participants.
